Djöfull er maður orðinn seigur í diagnostics.
Eða ekki
"Well, here's the down and dirty. Bottom end is fine, except for cylinder 1 piston. Pistons in cylinders 2-4 were slightly nicked and probably will be replaced just to have perfection again. Bank one cylinder head is toast and will have to be replaced altogether then re-ported and re-polished. Intake valves are good, exhaust valves are not and will have to be replaced. Cams are fine. Block, crank and rods are out to be magnafluxed to check for cracks as a prophylactic measure. All bearings will be replaced. Lifters will be spec'd again. And finally...the vanos units will be sent back to Dr. Vanos. Why? The culprit here appears NOT to have been the less-than-tight tensioner bolt, but rather, the fact that the passenger side vanos gear for some reason did NOT extend into the passenger side exhaust cam sprocket. Thus, that cam did not have vanos control. In short, the vanos malfunctioned or was installed incorrectly, one of the two. Conclusive diagnosis will only come from Dr. Vanos.
The upshot is that Dave is handling everything like a pro (including Mr. X's tab) and hopes to have the engine rebuilt and in and running by Thanksgiving--a very long time to be without my Beast, but if it all works as it should, I'll forget the wait and the interim pain altogether. In the meantime, I'll come up with a thousand projects for the car to keep my mind off the delay. I really appreciate how Dave and Bavarian Solutions has stepped up to the plate to fix everything.
So this probably will be the last post in this thread for a while, at least until the dispositive diagnosis comes back from Dr. Vanos or some progress is made. Thanks to everyone for their support.
Best,
Peter"
