Walter RohrlDouble World Rally champion Walter Rohrl is to contest the Nurburgring 24 Hours this year for the first time since 1993.
The 62-year-old is a test and development driver for Porsche, regularly evaluating the company's road-going sportscars on the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
He has now decided to drive a standard Porsche 911 GT3 RS in this year's 24 hour race at the track.
"Right from the word go, the new 911 GT3 RS reminded me of the race vehicle," said Rohrl.
"No other road-going 911 has ever been as close to a race car as this current GT3 RS. That's why I'm thrilled to be able to prove that this sports car is up to the challenge of the 24 hour race."
The 2010 Nurburgring 24 Hours takes place on 15-16 May.
