BMW lends the M5's V10 powerplant to the brutal and retro kitsch German car called the Wiesmann MF 5 GT. The Wiesmann company has been making coupe and roadster sportscars with BMW power for some time, with the exquisite detailing, outlandish styling and thumping performance being their outstanding features.
Wiesmann have taken Munich's finest current roadcar engine, the 90 degree V10, displacing 4999cc, as found in the M5, and clothed it in their whimsical yet powerful coupe body. The power is unchanged from its application in BMW's M5 and M6 vehicles, with 507 PS (373 kW) delivered at 7750 rpm, and torque of 520 Nm at 6100 rpm. This is transmitted from the mid-front mounted engine through to the rear wheels via a 7 speed SMG gearbox. With a length of only 4.3 metres, and weighing substantially less than the M5 at 1380 kg, it's enough to catapult the GT MF5 to 100 km/h from standstill in a mere 3.9 seconds, and on to an eventual maximum speed of 310 km/h.
As much attention is paid to the engineering as is to the styling, and the car rides on a double wishbone setup front and rear, with huge 20 inch wheels wearing 275/30 rubber (front) and 325/25 (rear), which should endow it with prodigious grip. The perfect 50:50 weight distribution achieved will definitely contribute to the handling, so it should go around the twisties as well as it rockets off the line.
Deliveries will commence early in 2008.
